My subjects are chosen from both the everyday: landscapes, historical architectural features, natural forms, and the mythological: gods and saints, all illuminated to give a sense of drama. My style is impressionistic, bold, with stark contrasts. I want viewers to see, as I do, the ordinary as extraordinary, to feel the same wonder in colour, light and shadow. I paint in oils as well as acrylic and transparent medium on canvas, board and paper. I am also exploring the opportunities of painting on reclaimed materials, roofing slate, wood, stone and using crystals to contrast with the rough textures of the materials.
